How to prepare for college

        Do you want to go to college but are unsure how to get ready?  Are you worried about the SATs?  Unsure how to apply?  There are ways to get help with test preparation, college applications and tutoring. Here are some places to turn.

COLLEGE PREP AND APPLICATION HELP

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development runs several Beacon programs in Brooklyn. These after school programs aim to improve quality educational opportunities to youth and stress five areas: academic enhancement, career awareness and school to work transition, life skills, community building and recreation.  http://www.nyc.gov/html/dycd/html/services-afterschool-beacon.html

High-school based programs

Some high schools run their own school based to help their students prepare for college. 

NYU Metro Center runs the Brooklyn Academy which is located within the Boys and Girls High School building.

Project Youth Reach serves students at John Jay.

TEAK Fellowship

The TEAK Fellowship helps talented New York City students from low-income families gain admission to and succeed at top high schools and colleges. Along with academic support, TEAK provides leadership training, exposure to the arts and outdoors, mentoring, career experience, and assistance with the high school and college application processes. www.teakfellowshi.org

The Posse  Foundation
The Posse Foundation identifies, recruits and trains student leaders from public high schools and prepares them for enrollment at top universities. www.possefoundation.org
